Villalobos looks to fire Qormi up the table in Malta

The 2015 Irish showcase tour continues to be a great success for AX representatives with Gus Villalobos signing for Qormi FC of the Maltese Premier League .

This is the second season in a row AX have helped Villalobos find a club . Last year the smart finisher was picked up by Ange IF of the Swedish Second Division after a fine showing in the January 2014 Sweden showcase. He was unfortunate not to secure a second year on his contract, but promptly contacted AX to see what his options were.

Qormi head coach Mark Miller was invited by AX to take charge of their showcase squad in Ireland, and Villalobos’s quality performances led Miller to send him on trial with table-topping Hibernians FC. Villalobos was unsuccessful as they opted to look for a different kind of attacking player, but the former California State University player, who is adept both up front and on the wing, proved to be the right fit for Qormi FC. Miller signed him for his own club instead.

Qormi have had a poor start to the season and are in the relegation places, but after Villalobos bagged a goal on his debut they hope to hit momentum and secure their Premier League status. The Yellow-Blacks have had numerous talented players over the years, including former English Premier League striker and Maltese international Michael Misfud, and 2013 MLS All-Star and Golden Boot winner Camilo , who was joint top scorer with Querétaro in the Mexican top tier last season.
